There are many ways in which God shows us the beauty of His creations -
In the sky-Beautiful clouds, sunsets,rainbows,moon and stars;
On the Earth -Beautiful Mountains, valleys,rivers,trees,flowers;
and under the earth, beautiful gemstones.

This outstanding gem is the largest and one of the finest Black Opals ever found in Australia - the home of Black Opal. It is named Halley's Comet Opal, and is almost 2000 carats in its uncut state.
Tradition has it that certain gemstones have become associated with certain months of the year.
This months gemstone is Opal.
This photo was graciously provided by Eopal Limited of http://www.eopal.biz and we thank them for their generosity.

Also it appears that popular devotion has assigned to certain months a particular meaning or devotion. These months' dedications may not be universally accepted, and it is not compulsory to do anything special in honouring them, such as saying certain prayers or attending special Masses, however in addition, this month has been officially declared the Month of the Rosary by Pope Leo XIII.
